MicroNeedling: The Process, Paula’s Story

One of my favorite skin care procedures we offer is Microneedling.  Microneedling is a powerful tool for skin resurfacing, helping address my melasma pigmentation, fine lines and texture of my face and neck.  Microneedling can be coupled with PRP treatments, known as the Vampire Facial® as well as PRF injections.  PRF is very similar to PRP.  PRF is a fibrin matrix comprised of platelet cytokines and growth factors that help promote focused skin rejuvenation.

Here is a picture of my face before my first Vampire Facial, where we microneedled PRP into my face, and what my skin looked like 2 weeks after.  It was glowing and radiant. I absolutely loved the result, but was still aware of my fine lines and melasma especially on my forehead.  These treatments aren’t typically one and done.  They are a series of several done 4-6 weeks apart.

Paula loves the way the Vampire Facial improves her skin tone and texture.

So for my second Microneedling session, I decided to share my journey with everyone.

I chose to have a standard microneedling session for this round.  There are many factors that may come into play in determining what type of microneedling session to select or if a chemical peel is an appropriate option for resurfacing. Factors such as budgets and treatment response can influence your decision.  Please discuss your options with your service provider to help you make the best choice for you and your goals.

At YouRestored we only use FDA approved microneedling pens.  This is very important because it will provide an effective and safe treatment.  Microneedling is a procedure that is ordered by the Physician, Dr. Ryan in our case after a consultation.  It is also important to note that if you suffer from cold sores the doctor can prescribe you an antiviral medicine as this procedure can cause cold sores to arise. Nurse Jen performed my microneedling for me.

There aren’t a lot of things that you have to change in preparation for a microneedling procedure, but there are a few very important considerations:

The Do’s and Don’ts for Microneedling

I decided to create a video describing how to prepare for your microneedling visit.  It’s unique in that I am 24 hours post-treatment when I recorded the video.  This really allows you to see the patchy redness and even some skin tightening in my neck following the procedure.

Nurse Jen performed the procedure for me at YouRestored.  This was a basic microneedling treatment and didn’t involve any blood draws.  My face was numbed and I was in minimal discomfort during the procedure.  The microneedling pen reminded me of a tattoo gun, hearing much of the vibration.  The boney areas of my face and my nose were the most sensitive.  It definitely had my full attention but wasn’t too much for me to handle.  The fuller regions of my face, neck and chest had minimal discomfort at all.  I don’t attest to being tough… in fact I know I’m not.    I have highly reactive skin and is very prone to redness and drama.  The procedure took around an hour to complete since she treated my face, neck and chest.

Here are some pictures from the procedure:

I also created a video showing the procedure itself and the first 24 hours.

As I get farther out from the procedure I will share some additional photos of my progress.

The aftercare from Microneedling is very important and impacts your results.  I created a video discussing MicroNeedling aftercare.
