Microneedling

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a cosmetic procedure involving tiny needles to puncture skin and stimulate the production of collagen and elastin. This stimulation can help reduce fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, stretch marks, and other signs of aging.

Microneedling Improves the Following:

  • Reduces fine lines and wrinkles
  • Skin laxity
  • Sagging skin
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Textural irregularities
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Pigmented lesions
  • Dull complexion
  • Acne scarring
  • Light facial scarring
  • Stretch marks
  • Improve blood circulation

The microneedling process involves passing a hand-held device with many very small needles over your skin. These needles create microscopic channels in the top layer of your skin, which triggers your body’s natural healing process. As a result, new collagen and elastin are created and quickly replace the aged tissue in the area treated. This increased level of collagen and elastin leads to younger-looking skin and improved texture, tone, and overall appearance. We can do this with minimal pain and discomfort.

We believe in only providing the highest quality treatment, using only FDA-approved microneedling devices. This helps protect your health and provide you with the best possible results.

Before your treatment, your provider will consult to ensure that microneedling is appropriate. YouRestored will evaluate all areas of concern and create a customized treatment plan tailored to your needs.

How to Prepare for Microneedling

Before your microneedling appointment, we need to ensure your skin is ready for your treatment!

Please note the following restrictions for the next 1-2 weeks:

  • Avoid alcohol and blood thinners 5 to 7 days prior to treatment.
  • Stop using topical retinoids and exfoliants 1 week before treatment.
  • Avoid sun exposure, laser treatments, and tanning beds 2 weeks prior to treatment.
  • For cold sore sufferers, take anti-viral medication the day before, day of, and day after treatment to prevent possible break out.
  • Avoid any cosmetic treatments such as a wrinkle relaxer or filler for 2 weeks prior to treatment.

Microneedling Procedure

The procedure is simple and straightforward; it starts with thoroughly cleansing the treated area. Your provider will then apply a topical numbing cream to help make the treatment more comfortable. After the numbing cream has taken effect, the microneedling device is glided across the targeted area in order to create multiple micro-injuries. Depending on the size and complexity of the areas being treated, additional passes may be necessary. The process typically takes between 30 and 90 minutes.

After the procedure, your skin will be red and slightly swollen, but should begin to clear up within 2-3 days.

MicroNeedling: The Process, Paula’s Story

Microneedling Results

After the procedure, you may feel some minor skin irritation or discomfort, but this should dissipate within 48 hours. Most people experience noticeable results in as little as one treatment session; however, multiple sessions may be recommended for optimum results.

Most clients report skin texture and clarity improvement after just one session. It is advised to avoid direct sun exposure following a microneedling treatment and to wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 35 or higher when outdoors. Additionally, patients should avoid using hot water on the treated areas, as well as any harsh soaps, perfumes, and alcohol-based products on or near the treated areas. Following these simple guidelines will help ensure optimal results from your microneedling treatments.

Microneedling After Care Instructions

For the next seven days, kindly abstain from any anti-inflammatory medication such as Ibuprofen, Motrin, or Advil. Additionally, we recommend that you forgo icing your face as well as taking arnica or bromelain supplements. All of these could potentially interfere with the natural healing process which is essential in achieving beautiful skin rejuvenation results.

For soreness use Tylenol as needed.

It’s essential to take a break from the sun and protect your skin. Give yourself at least two weeks of downtime, and do your best to avoid direct exposure to the sun whenever possible. Once you’ve passed the 24 hour mark, don’t forget to apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF rating of 30 or higher—it’s the simple secret to maintaining lasting radiance! For sun exposure, wear a hat and apply sunscreen every two hours.

DAYS 1-3

After the first few days, it’s normal to experience a sunburn-like effect on your skin. It might be tight, dry, or tender, so treat it with extra TLC; use a mild cleanser and gently pat dry at least 4 hours post-treatment. In addition, some redness, bruising, or swelling is normal. Bruising may last up to a week while swelling could last 2-4 days – all depending on how aggressive your treatment was.

Plan your social calendar accordingly!

  • After your session, it’s best to allow your body to rest and recover. Steer clear of intensive exercises and activities that make you sweat for the next 24 hours. To reduce any inflammation, limit Jacuzzi, sauna or steam bath usage for the next 48 hours. Give yourself some time to heal!
  • No Make-Up post-procedure for 2 days.
  • If needed, sleep on your back with head of bed elevated to minimize swelling or pain.
  • Clean your bedding, especially pillow cases prior to use.
  • Clean your cell phone and glasses prior to use.

DAYS 2-7

Your skin may start to peel a few days after your treatment, which is a normal part of the healing process. Try not to scratch or pick at the area, as this could cause irritation. To prevent dryness, keep your skin well moisturized throughout the day. If needed, apply lotion every two hours for extra hydration.

DAYS 5-7

You may restart your regular skincare products and Retinoids once your skin is no longer irritated. Many clients have noticed continued skin improvement for months following treatment.

  • To achieve the best results, we suggest that you come back for follow-up and repeat treatments at intervals of 4-6 weeks and complete a series of 3 to 5 treatments, depending on your unique care plan.

How Long Does Microneedling Results Last?

The results of microneedling are typically seen 3-4 weeks after their treatment. Depending on the skin concerns being addressed, additional treatments may be necessary. Once we obtain the result you are looking for, you may consider doing a “touch up” treatment every 3-6 months based on your skin’s needs.

Microneedling Side Effects & Recovery

Redness, swelling, soreness, bruising, etc., can occur in the skin after microneedling, although these effects are temporary and mild. A flushed appearance may last on your skin for a day or two, but most of the other side effects should go within a few hours. There is no recovery time, so normal life and work may be resumed right away. However, until the redness entirely disappears, which should take around two days, you should avoid vigorous exercise, exfoliation, and bright sunlight.

Boost Microneedling Results with PRP

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a component of the blood with a high concentration of growth factors, the components responsible for most of your body’s innate healing processes. This procedure is known as the Vampire Facial®. The growth factors from your blood further catalyze collagen production and cellular regeneration, which makes your skin look smoother and more uniform.
